Opportunities

Side-by-Side Performances

MPYO students have two opportunities to perform in a side-by-side concert with the Michigan Philharmonic: the Sinfonia in November, and the Youth Orchestra in April. This unique opportunity allows students to perform side-by-side with professional musicians in a real concert setting in front of a new audience.

Workshops

MPYO students have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from highly talented and respected guest composers and artists. Past programs have featured specialists in jazz improvisation, violin performance, piano performance, Chinese erhu, Indian sitar, and Latin percussion.

Not offered every year.

String Fellowship

A highly talented senior string player may be chosen to perform as a member of the Michigan Philharmonic in two concerts and be mentored by the Michigan Philharmonic’s award-winning music director and conductor, Nan Washburn.

Michigan Philharmonic

MPYO students and families receive a $5 discount on admission to Michigan Philharmonic performances, providing a more accessible opportunity to experience live, professional, classical and symphonic music. For discounted Michigan Philharmonic tickets, please contact the MPYO Manager.

Other Performance Opportunities

MPYO students may have opportunities to perform in smaller events around the community. Details may be sent to students as such opportunities become available. Interested students should contact the MPYO Manager.
